Can I try MacDelta before buying?
Yes. Download the separate seven-day trial for Apple silicon or Intel. All features are included, with no account or card required and no automatic charge. Your seven days start when you choose Start 7-day trial in the app. After expiry, recording stops, but you can still view, export and delete saved history. Installing the paid edition preserves your history and settings.
Is v2 free for existing customers?
Yes. Every existing v1 purchaser can upgrade to MacDelta v2 at no extra charge. In updater-enabled versions, choose MacDelta → Check for Updates. Older versions can download v2 using their existing purchase code or email recovery on My Downloads.
Can I go back to v1?
Yes. My Downloads includes MacDelta 1.1.0 for Apple silicon and Intel. Quit MacDelta before replacing it, and keep your Application Support folder. Shared history and snapshots remain available; v2-only file, download, clipboard and app-launch history stays on disk for a later return to v2. Choose Skip This Version and disable automatic installation if you prefer to stay on v1.
Does clipboard recording start automatically?
No. Enable Record Clipboard when you want it. Existing clipboard contents are not imported. Sensitive marked content and excluded apps are skipped, but no automatic filter can identify every secret—pause recording before copying information you do not want saved.
What does MacDelta actually track?
Application installs, updates, removals, launches and closes; recently used, modified and created file metadata; download history; opt-in clipboard content; readable LaunchAgent and LaunchDaemon definitions; substantial storage changes in monitored folders; Trash size and observed emptying; Wi-Fi and network connection changes; Bluetooth radio and supported paired-device connections; sleep/wake, battery and Low Power Mode events; and observed macOS version or build changes.
Will I see anything on the first day?
During setup, MacDelta can import recent installation records provided by macOS. Events from before installation may be incomplete. They cannot reconstruct past storage usage, removed apps, or every earlier version. Your first capture establishes the starting point for future comparisons.
Does it need Full Disk Access?
Trash and some protected folders require Full Disk Access. MacDelta guides you through granting access to the installed app. You choose which folders to monitor, and incomplete access is explained rather than reported as a removal.
Does my history leave my Mac?
MacDelta keeps its observations locally. There is no account, cloud sync, advertising or telemetry in the app. File history uses metadata. Optional clipboard history stores copied content locally; sensitive marked entries and excluded apps are skipped. You can pin or delete entries and pause recording.
What are saved snapshots for?
Save a named moment before installing software or troubleshooting. Later, see retained events since that moment or compare its state with your latest observation. Snapshots store metadata; they are not file backups.
Does it record changes while the app is closed?
Closing the main window leaves MacDelta running in the menu bar. Quitting the app stops observation. Optional Open at Login helps it resume when you sign in. Changes that occur and reverse between captures may be missed.
Can it clean my disk or remove background items?
MacDelta observes and explains changes. It does not delete files, remove services, kill processes or optimize your Mac. You can inspect details and reveal relevant locations in Finder.
Do connection and battery events wait for a capture?
No. macOS notifications provide these events between scheduled captures while MacDelta is awake and running. Wi-Fi and network-route changes settle for two seconds, and Bluetooth device changes for five seconds. Short fluctuations are filtered. Low Power Mode records the effective mode, without claiming who changed it.
What permissions do networking and battery history need?
Bluetooth activity needs macOS Bluetooth permission. Wi-Fi link, battery and Low Power Mode observations do not need Full Disk Access or Location permission. Wi-Fi network names are optional and require separate Location permission; MacDelta never requests geographic coordinates. It does not collect IP addresses, browsing history, traffic contents, or Bluetooth hardware addresses.
Does it measure internet traffic or track my VPN?
No upload/download totals or VPN-provider tracking are implemented. Network-path availability does not prove internet access or VPN protection. MacDelta records connection transitions, not the contents of your traffic.
Can I use MacDelta on an Intel Mac?
The Intel build costs $9.99 plus applicable tax and requires macOS 14 or later. Download it after payment. It has not been verified on physical Intel Macs and may have issues. For help, email support@macdelta.app.
